Healthy Heart Fair
Wednesday, February 12, 2020 - 8:00am to 2:00pm
Mon Health Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital is planning a Healthy Heart Fair on February 12 at the Weston Hospital, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a perfect opportunity for the public to stop by and have a free screening of simple health markers. The health screenings includes bone density, blood pressure, blood glucose, height, weight, and pulse ox. This year the Hospital plans to have an even larger array of vendors with speakers at noon in the SJMH boardroom.
Last year, close to 50 patients participated in the event with some sobering results.
"We were delighted with the turnout", noted Cardiac Rehab Nurse Kristi Gannon. "We provided several extra screenings including one for depression. After seeing the numbers for that screening I feel that we have a need for mental health help here in the area."
There were also participants who were surprised by the results. One man saw how much he weighed that day and was so shocked that he began a weight loss program, done on his own, and lost 60 pounds over the next 8 months.
"This is a free screening that is so important for people to find a simple state of their health. There have been changes in what people should have for their blood pressure. Now it is estimated that half of Americans have blood pressure problems. This is a great place to start improving your health," said SJMH Marketing Director Julia Spelsberg.
